Do YOU Soo-Shee?

We had a pre-birthday dinner for Scott on April 19th, and for his birthday "cake" we made dessert "sushi".  Whether you're a fan of sushi or not (and Scott is) you'd probably like this kind.   It's made with RiceKrispie treat (Scott also loves RiceKrispie treats)  for the rice part which is wrapped around gummi worms (another of Scott's favorite treats) and twizzlers.  Once rolled up, we put either a layer of fruit rollup or melted chocolate around the outside for the "seaweed" layer.   Then they got sliced into individual SooShee (my name for these "faux" sushi treats) rolls.   Oh, and some were "Nigiri style" - with a swedish fish on top of a RiceKrispie treat bed, tied with a narrow strip of fruit roll.
Everyone helped make them, and that was fun - I caught DeAnne with a surprised look on her face, but her rolls were, as usual, the most artistic looking of the bunch.

Mackenzie's effort was pretty much confined to eating as many gummi "caterpillars" (her word) as possible, and coloring us a beautiful picture. (maybe it was her rendition of our Soo-Shee creations?)

Then they were stacked up (sorry I didn't get too artistic in the stacking process - maybe next time I'll do better) and we added candles for Scott's birthday.

It was fun!

Scott got a few gifts from the folks and...

...a selection of gourmet cheeses (another thing Scott LOVES) from Aubrey - and Mackenzie was happy to help hand him presents and try them out when they were opened.

Then we shifted gears and had a celebration of another type, the Bob Truss awards -- but more on that later!
